This is a portrait of the ancient Spirit Grania — (GRAW-nya). The name comes
from the Old Irish grainne which means grain or seed.
Grania is one of the old ancestors of the present day spritits who wield the
powers of nature.
There are many powerful spirits, like the ones who take care of the blossoming
of trees and flourishing of flowers. Some of them take care of rain and snow.
They were often called elves or fairies, but there is a huge difference. Elves
and fairies will take care of a lot of jobs, but the organisation, the
planning, that is the responsability of the higher spirits.
So it was once that Grania ruled the waves of nature. She was a beautiful
looking spirit, although not many humans have seen here. But she felt in love
with a human knight named Fergal. He was a handsome and honorable man. He was
mortal, but Grania, as said, ruled the powers of nature. So she arranged an
extension of life for him. As long as his heart belonged to Grania, Fergal
Grania had magic powers, but Fergal not. That was not a problem for them. They
stayed together for ages and till now the influence of Grania is great. Her
great-grandchild Leary, who rules nowadays has a strong bond with her
But that's another story.
For now, we can see that Grania, has a magic wand. That wand is not really
essential for her. She can use her spells without, but it is merely a symbol
of royalness, like kings and queens who use a scepter.
It is important to notice, that Grania is not only able to rule nature's
waves, but she can also give a new identity to people. That means, build a
life around people and give them the necessary tools, like an ID, a home and
bring them in contact with other people like directors, human resource
managers so that they can built a life.It is kinda manipulative, but that's
the way Grania worked and still works.
So if you meet someone and you have strongly the feeling that you somehow know
that person, it can be that Grania has put this into your heart and that there
is a reason to stay in contact with that person.
This portrait from Grania is digitally made and I used her own specific
mandala with her name waved a couple of times inside.
I hope to make a serie of these spirits and show you more of them. First would
be a portrait of Fergal, the beloved of Grania.
